February 13, 2024 6:23 am

Have you ever thought about your life and whether you’re driving your decisions intentionally or you’re just on autopilot? If you’ve noticed that there could be some areas of improvement, it only means that you’re slowly waking up to being in the present moment. Conscious living is a practice that involves being fully present in each moment, making deliberate choices, and cultivating awareness of our thoughts, actions, and surroundings. It’s all about making deliberate choices that serve you in the long run, like healthy eating, to experience greater fulfilment, inner peace, and joy.

Prioritise self-care and well-being

Self-care and well-being are not just some buzzwords floating around everywhere. These practices are essential for maintaining balance and overall well-being. When you decide to live more consciously, you learn that life is a delicate balance of things that give you financial stability and jot on life.

A perfect act of self-care is unapologetically making the time for activities that recharge and rejuvenate you. If it means that you’ll play Sims on Wednesday afternoon, then be it. It’s how you feel afterwards that matters the most. Make a list of activities that nourish your body, mind, and spirit and practice them every time you need to strike that perfect balance in life.

Also, take care of your well-being through cultivating a positive mindset. How we view the world can make or break the quality of our lives. Affirmations can help you change your mindset and rewire it for positivity and success. Write a list of affirmations that uplift, motivate and make sense to your stage of life. Start each day with affirmations and observe how they help you cultivate a positive mindset and set the tone for your day.

Personal growth

Personal growth is also a decision, one that requires choosing what works for you, your goals and your desired lifestyle daily. Conscious living is also observed through setting intentions and goals for personal growth and development. These decisions can fall under three categories – personal, professional and spiritual goals.

Personal goals could be to stick to a specific workout regime for three months or to stick to journaling every morning. Your professional goals could be to enrol in three different education programs this year and finish each one over the course of three to four months. Spiritual goals could be to sign up for naturopathy courses and learn how to regulate your emotions, anxiety and stress through different holistic principles.

If you haven’t thought about your personal growth this year and what it could be, take time to reflect on what you want to achieve. Set SMART goals—specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound—and create a plan to work towards them. To stay on track you should track your progress. You might need to adjust your goals or evaluate them.

Declutter and simplify your life

We also need to declutter our lives, our living space and even our mental space if we want to make room for conscious decisions. Even if we think we can thrive in chaos or cluttered space, we’ll soon realise it takes so much energy every day.

Create a sense of calm and clarity by decluttering your physical space and environment. Bring nature into your home to create a serene and inspiring environment further, as greenery has a positive, inspiring, and calming effect. Try to ground yourself further by walking in the park, taking a hike, or simply sitting outside and soaking up the sunshine.

Try to stay in this inspiring energy and continue to simplify your life through decluttering practices. Take time to declutter your home, office, and digital devices, removing anything that no longer serves you. The same applies to your mind, as conscious living also means that you’ve decluttered your mind by letting go of negative thoughts and worries. Let go of the mental clutter that weighs you down to sharpen your focus and allow room for personal growth and goals.

Once you decide to incorporate these tips into your life, you’ll see how your life becomes better and also identify other areas of improvement. It’s all about living a life of purpose and meaning by being the one in charge of your decisions. Just don’t forget that there isn’t a final destination you have to reach as fast as possible. Conscious living is a neverending journey, but the one you’ll enjoy every day. enjoy the process of growth and self-discovery and live each day with intention and presence.
