No, no es la city that never sleeps, aunque casi. No sé si la ciudad se ve con más vida de día o noche, sólo sé que siempre es bellísima y guarda un misticismo ENORME.

No, it’s not the city that never sleep, although it’s close. I don’t know if the city feels more alive at day or night, I just know it’s so beautiful and hold HUGE mysticism.

Continuando la historia del viaje… ¿dónde nos quedamos? ¡Ah sí! En el camino de el valle hacia la ciudad del Cuzco. Como recuerdan, este día me había levantado a las 3:30am, subido una montaña más toda la parte de las ruinas, sin haber almorzado. Un día genial, pero estaba AGOTADA y muy muy muy hambrienta. Llegamos a la plaza (nuestro hotel está ubicado justo ahí, en Portal de Panes), el Inca Wasi. La locación es realmente perfecta. Pero claro que lo primero que hicimos fue dejar las cosas en los cuartos y luego buscar donde ir a cenar, ¿recuerdan que no habíamos almorzado y subido una montaña? Fuimos al Papacho’s de Cuzco que está frente a la plaza, hice este dibujo mientras esperaba (como loca, paranoíca y muerta de hambre) a que llegara la comida.

Now… continuing with the trip… where was I? Oh yeah! On the road from the valley to Cuzco city. As you remember, I had woken up at 3:30 am, climbed a mountain plus all the ruins and hadn’t had lunch. A great day, but I was EXHAUSTED and very very hungry. We arrived at the square (our hotel was located right there, in Portal de Panes) the Inca Wasi. The location is perfect. But, of course, the first thing we did after leaving the bags in the rooms was look for a place to eat. Remember we didn’t have lunch and climbed up a mountain? We went to Papacho’s, the one at the Cuzco square, and I made this drawing I waited (as a crazy, paranoid and starving person) for the food to arrive at our table.

Al día siguiente salió un sol buenazo. Aprovechamos de pasear por a plaza, San Blas y almorzamos en un restaurante buenoteee, PACHAPAPA. Ahi comí un ají de gallina de lo más richi y probé unos anticuchos de alpaca que estaban demasiado sólidos. Nunca había probado alpaca antes. No será la última vez, espero.

The next day, the most incredible sun came out. We walked around the square, San Blas and had lunch at an amazing restaurant, PACHAPAPA. I had a yummy ají de gallina (peruvian dish I love) and tried a little of the alpaca anticuchos (like grilled alpaca meat) which was delicious. I had never tried alpaca before, hopefully it won’t be the last.

Luego nos subimos a esos tours de sightseeing en los buses que parten de la plaza y pudimos ver muchos de los spots en el centro histórico. Luego como última parada, Sacsayhuamán. Una construcción de piedras (gigantes, ni idea de cómo las pudieron llevar hasta allá) del imperio Inca donde cada año se celebra en Inti Raymi, una celebración del solsticio de invierno y el año nuevo.

After that, we went in those sightseeing bus tours that start at the square and could see a lot of spots in the hysterical centre. The last stop was Sacsayhuamán. A stone construction (with giant ones, no idea how they could transport them there) from the Inca Empire. Each year the Into Raymi takes place there, a celebration of the winter solstice and new year.

Toritos de Pucará. Es una tradición andina, ponen estos toritos de cerámica en los techos para proteger el hogar de malos espíritus.

These are the little bulls (toritos) from Pucará. It’s an andean tradition to put these ceramic bulls on the roofs of the houses to protect the home from evil spirits.

Sacasyhuamán

El último día nos despertamos temprano para hacer esos tours en cuatrimoto. Nos llevaron a practicar como a 45 minutos de la ciudad y luego paseamos en cuatrimoto yendo hasta un circuito en las alturas pasando por una laguna hermosa y pueblitos pintorescos. Full recomiendo el tour y eso que yo moría de miedo de hacerlo.

The last day we woke up early to do a bike tour. They took us to practice about 45 minutes away and then we drove all to way to a circuit assign through a beautiful lagoon and painteresque streets. I recommend this kind of tour, and I was even dying of fear of doing it.

En resúmen, tuve un viaje maravilloso. Cuzco, sea el valle o la ciudad nunca decepciona. Podría hacerlo un viaje anual y sería feliz. Para aquellos que aún no lo conocen, TIENEN que conocerlo al menos una vez en su vida, por algo Machu Picchu es una de las 7 maravillas del mundo.

To summarize, it was a wonderful trip. Cuzco, valley or city, never disappoints. I could do this an annual trip and be happy. To those who haven’t been there yet, it’s something you HAVE to do at least once in your life, there’s a reason Machu Picchu is one of the seven wonders of the world.
