Nowadays it’s easy to feel down about everything that’s going on and maybe even powerless because we feel like there’s not much we can do about anything. However, we all have a spark in us that could make a huge difference in the world and is begging to come out, all it needs is to be ignited. Inspiration is needed in order to help you bring this superhero out, so next up I’ll be sharing with you 5 female characters that are incredible role models and will do just that.

1. Jo March from Little Women
In a time were “married” was the most relevant thing a woman could be, Jo March refused to let norms of a society of such nature dictate who she should be. Her main concern was her family and her ambitions, these were the things she considered important and she chose to only care about that. Jo is a perfect example of how we can rise above the expectations people may have for us and that we have the power to build our own future.
2. Mare Barrow from Red Queen
This character’s drive is truly awe-inspiring. Mare always finds the way to look at the bright side of whatever situation she may find herself in, no matter how messy it is, and help people however she can. She is a strong individual, with deep-rooted beliefs and incredibly loyal to herself; in other words: she is the perfect role model.
3. Starr Carter from The Hate U Give
Starr teaches us the importance of speaking up and taking action when facing injustice. In the world we live in we can’t keep quiet when we witness something that is simply not right. Our voices have power, especially when they’re joined together, so we have the responsibility to make an example out of Starr and call out the misdeeds we identify.
4. Bee Branch from Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
When faced with her mother’s disappearance, Bee does not cave into sadness… On the contrary, she decides to see it as a challenge and embarks on a journey to search for her. At only 15 years of age, this character proves that there is nothing we can’t achieve if we set our minds to it.
5. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games
This list could not be complete without including the iconic Katniss Everdeen. Her strength and remarkable character are undeniably one of the best parts of the books and make for some pretty inspiring content to survive everyday challenges. If one girl could change the way a whole country works, we can get out of bed and face whatever life has in store for us.
These 5 characters were ordinary girls whose actions made them extraordinary. We all have a heroine inside of us and we owe it to ourselves and the rest of the world to let her shine and share her with everyone.
