Saben todos que soy LA experta en todo Disney, eso incluye los parques. El año pasado para celebrar mis 25 años, me fui a WDW de viaje <3  Yo sé, una manganzona yéndose a Disney por su cumple, pero Disney es magia y así soy yo. Justo mi amiguis Vale, de Fashion Frontier Blog hizo un post dando sus tips para Universal, hace poco anduvo de viaje por esos lares. Me inspiró a escribir uno sobre mi especialidad jaja. De verdad soy experta al respecto #NOESBROMA y ya que en Octubre muchos viajan a Disney (o a quienes vayan en los próximamente o no tienen idea de cuándo irán pero algún día quisieran), pensé que quizás les ayudaría. 12 tips que les hará ahorrar tiempo y explotar al máximo sus días en los parques, yupiiiiiiiiii. ¡Empecemos!

You guys know I’m THE expert in everything Disney, which clearly includes the parks. Last year I celebrated my 25th birthday going on a trip to WDW <3 I know, big girl going to Disney for her bday, well, Disney’s magic and that’s just me #Proud. My friend Vale from Fashion Frontier Blog did a post with tips for Universal Studios, since she was recently there. This inspired me to write one on my specialty haha. I am really the expert #NOJOKE and since many people travel to Disney in October (or for those who plan to go soon or have no idea when they are going but plan to go eventually), I thought it might be of your interest. 12 tips that will save you time and exploit your days at the parks the most, yaaaaay. Let’s get started!

1. FAST PASSES
Ya todos conocen estos, ya llevan funcionando en los parques como 15 años. Es un sistema para las atracciones más populares que ayuda a evitar las largas filas y esperas ( ¡y tampoco cuesta nada!). Asegúrense de chequear si la atracción a la que quieres ir los tiene, pasas tu ticket te dice en qué horario volver y pasar por una fila especial en la que no esperas más de 5 minutos, a veces NADA.

You must all know about these by now, they have been operative on the parks for almost 15 years. It’s a system for the most popular attractions that helps avoid long lines or waiting time (no additional fee at all!). Make sure to check if the attraction you want to go to has this advantage, you just put your ticket in the machine and it tells you a time to come back in which you will go through a special line with no more than a 5 minute wait, sometimes NONE.

2. PARK HOPPER TICKET

Yo siempre lo recomiendo, a menos que vayas semana y media a Disney y le puedas dedicar a cada parque un día completo, que no suele ser el caso. Usualmente uno va 5 días y también le gusta visitar otros parques fuera de Disney, como Universal o Bush Gardens y hacer algo de shopping en los outlets.  Significa que digamos que tienes 3 días y medio para aprovechar los 4 parques de Disney, 2 parques de agua y Downtown Disney. ¿No hay manera no? El PARK HOPPER es un upgrade que compras con tu ticket de entrada que te permite pasar en un mismo día a todos los parques que tu corazón desee. Así te aseguras de ver todo lo que hay. Puedes empezar el día en el Safari de Animal Kingdom, almorzar en el pabellón de Italia en EPCOT y en la noche ir a ver los fuegos artificiales de Magic Kingdom y hacer algo de shopping en Downton Disney más tarde. Todo en un día.

I always recommend this, unless you are going to WDW for like a week and half and you can dedicate more than a day for each park, which is, mostly, not the case. Usually one goes for about 5 days and also likes to visit parks outside of Disney, like Universal Studios or Bush Gardens and do some shopping at the outlets. This means you have about 3 days and a half to enjoy Disney, the four parks, 2 water parks and Downtown Disney. No way, right? The PARK HOPPER is a upgrade for your ticket you acquire that allows to hop from one park to the other, you can go to as many as you want on the same day. You can start the day at Animal Kingdom doing a safari, have lunch at the italian pavillion at EPCOT, go to enjoy the nigh fireworks at Magic Kingdom and swing by for some shopping afterwards at Downtown Disney. All in one day. 

3.  LOCALIZA A TU PERSONAJE FAVORITO/ FIND YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER 

Seas super fan o no, 50 años o 10, siempre uno se contagia de la magia de Disney y siempre hay algún personaje con el que SEA COMO SEA, quieres tomarte una foto. No deambules por los parques con esperanza de cruzártelo, pues quizás termine tu visita y no lo encontraste. La gran mayoría de personajes tienes su MEET & GREET point con horarios en los que los puedes encontrar en cada parque. Al entrar a un parque te dan los horarios de shows y de estos meet & greets, asegúrate de chequear si tu favorito está ahi y haces tu fila para tomarte cuantas fotos quieras con él o ella. No están ahí todo el día, a veces solo media hora, break de 5 mins y luego otra media hora y no más. Puedes darle hasta un regalo si quieres y hará tu meeting más especial, yo a Ariel le di una flor. ¡Es lo máximo!

It doesn’t matter if you are 50 or 10 years old, a big fan or not… the Disney magic is contagious and there is always at least one character that you SIMPLY CAN’T leave the parks unless you take a picture with her/him. Most characters have their own MEET & GREET points with a set timetable at each park. Once you enter the park you are handed a map of it and a timetable for shows and the characters. They are not there all day, sometimes only half and hour, 5 minute break and then another half hour and that’s it. Make sure to look if your favorite’s so you don’t miss it, wait in line and take as many pictures as you’d like. You can even give them a present and it will make your meet special, I gave Ariel a flower. It is the best!

4. CHARACTER SPOTS

Además de chequear los horarios de meet & greets, siempre hay spots en los parques donde encontrarás muchos personajes juntos y así ahorrar tiempo en lugar de recorrer todo el parque buscándolos.

Hay de estos en EPCOT, por el Innovations plaza, al lado del restaurante The Fountain con personajes clásicos como Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald y Pluto. Es una sola fila para todos. Hay uno en Hollywood Studios, en el animation building, puedes encontrar a personajes de Los Increíbles como Frozono, también Ralph el Demoledor, Vanellope Von Schweetz, Minnie y Mickey en su outfit de aprendiz de mago. También encuentras uno en Animal Kingdom, donde encuentras un montón de cabañitas con varios personajes y donde de verdad casi ni hay fila para fotos, como está medio escondido no mucha gente sabe que ni está ahí. Por último, está el PRINCESS FAIRYTALE HALL. Lo encuentras en Fantasyland en Magic Kingdom. Haces sólo una fila por ver a dos princesas y la fila para ver a las otras dos está al lado. Puedes ver a Cenicienta, Tiana, Mulan, Rapunzel, Aurora y Blanca nieves. ¡Incluso puedes sacar fast pass!

Besides checking out the meet n greet timetables, there are spots in the park in which you will find many characters together and, that way, save time, instead of running all around the park looking for them.

You can find these at EPCOT, by the Innovations plaza next to the restaurant, The Fountain. Only one line to meet classical characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto. In Hollywood Studios, at the animation building  you get to meet characters from The Incredibles, like Frozono, also Wreck-it Ralph, Vanellope Von Schweetz, Minnie and Mickey in his sorcerer apprentice outfit. There’s one at Animal Kingdom, you will find various characters in little huts, and there are never lines. I guess because it’s kinda hidden and most people don’t know it’s there. Finally, there’s the PRINCESS FAIRYTALE HALL. It’s at Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. Only one line to meet two princesses, and next to it a line for the other two. You can meet Cinderella, Tiana, Mulan, Rapunzel, Aurora and Snow White. You can even get a fast pass for it!

5. FESTIVALES DE EPCOT/EPCOT FESTIVALS

Puedo decir montoooones de cosas de EPCOT, hasta escribí un ensayo en a universidad para un curso de Utopías,  pero me concentraré en dos. Primero, que este parque que se divide en el FUTURE WORLD donde están las atracciones como Test Track o Soarin’ y el WORLD SHOWCASE donde frente a una gran laguna se alzan los pabellones de 11 diferentes países donde puedes probar comida, juegos y aprender de la cultura de estos. Sólo aquí puedes pasar de Marruecos a Japón con sólo caminar 300 m.
Segundo, es que en EPCOT en diferentes temporadas del año hay festivales, como el Flower and Garden Festival, al iniciar la primavera en Mayo con unos jardines y esculturas de plantas hermosas. Justo en esta temporada, es decir mediados Octubre/Noviembre es el Food and Wine Festival donde se adicionan muchos más países que los 11 con puestos con bebidas y comidas tradicionales para que pruebes sus diferentes delicias nacionales preparador pos chefs famosos. ¡Sandra Plevisani fue una vez! Me acuerdo de haberla visto en un puesto de Perú.

La entrada no cuesta más ni menos y tampoco tienes que comprarte ticket aparte. Solo asegúrate de ir hambriento y dedicarle más tiempo del que le dedicarías en otra ocasión a este parque.

I can go on and on about EPCOT, I even wrote an essay for my Utopies class, but I will focus on two. First, that the park is divided between FUTURE WORLD where you find the different attractions and rides of the park like Test Track or Soarin’ and the WORLD SHOWCASE where, in front of a big lagoon stand the pavilions of 11 different countries from which you can learn their culture, try their traditional food and play games. Only here you can go from Morocco to Japan only by walking 300 m. 
Point number two… EPCOT there are different seasons of the year with special festivals, like the Flower and Garden Festival, in May, when spring starts with gorgeous gardens and Disney sculptures made of all kind of flowers. Right about this time of year, October/November, there’s the Food and Wine Festival where many more countries join the fun with stands of their traditional food and drinks so you can try all their national treats prepared by celebrity chefs. 

The ticket’s not more expensive, and there’s not an additional one you have to get. Just make sure you go hungry, ready to spend more on food and to dedicate the park more time that you would any other time.

Justo acá un video de los Imagineers (ingenieros que construyen la magia en Disney) y el departamente de horicultura transforman la entrada del parque en honor al festival. Este año fue inspirado en el clásico de Fantasia.

6. PARQUES DE AGUA/ WATER PARKS

Si vas en temporada de calor, estos son un MUST, son los únicos parques en los que no te sancochas en fila y paras fresquito fresquito todo el tiempo. Usualmente los cierran en invierno, pero no siempre. Aprovecha si agarras un día soleado.  Hay dos, Typhoon Lagoon y Blizzard Beach. Mi preferido es Blizzard Beach, por su concepto de mundo congelado, ¿dónde más vas a la piscina exterior en un ski resort? Su tobogán estrella tiene 37 metros de alto y puedes llegar a tener una velocidad de 85 km/h. Es de locooooos. Si vas,no dejes de probar sus famosas mini-donuts…. las sirven con chocolate ;)

If you go in a hot season, these are a MUST, the only parks in which you can be in line and not suffocate from the heat, staying fresh the whole time. Usually they are closed in winter, but not always. If there’s a sunny day, be sure to swing by. There’s two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. My personal favorite is Blizzard Beach, because of it’s cold theme. Where else are you gonna be in an exterior pool at a ski resort? It’s star slide is over 37 meters tall and you can go as fast as 85 km/h. It’s insaaaaane. If you go, be sure to try its famous mini-donuts… served with chocolate ;)

7. HORARIOS DE SHOWS & PARADES / SHOWS & PARADES SCHEDULE

Al llegar a los parques siempre te dan los mapas y horarios de los shows y desfiles. Asegúrate de tenerlos bien chequeado y armar tu día en base a éstos, así no se te pasan. Usualmente la parte más mágica son los desfiles (son alrededor de dos por día, a menos que haya un evento especial y cierren temprano el parque) y los shows, sean frente al castillo de Cenicienta, sobre la laguna de EPCOT, en el Beauty and the Beast theatre o frente al sorcerer hat en Hollywood Studios. Hay muchísimos, para niños pequeños como para los grandes.

When you arrive at a park you are always handed the maps and schedules of the shows and parades. Make sure you are aware of them and organize your visit with these in mind, so you don’t miss them. Usually the most magical part are the parades (about two a day, unless there’s a special event and they close the park early) and the shows, whether they are in front of Cinderella Castle, on the EPCOT lagoon, the Beauty and the Beast theatre or in front of the sorcerer hat at Hollywood Studios. There’s so many, for little kids and grown ups too.

8. ANIMATION ACADEMY

Esta es una de mis actividades favoritas en Disney, IMPERDIBLE para mí. Mi carrera frustrada siempre fue la animación. Si van al ANIMATION BUILDING en Hollywood Studios (antes llamado MGM Studios) encontrarán el ANIMATION ACADEMY. Es un salón donde en varias carpetas, un artista de Disney nos enseña paso a paso como dibujar uno de 50 personajes Disney, desde clásicos como Mickey y Goofy o de tus películas favoritas como Mushu o Elsa. Ya perdí la cuenta de todas las veces que fui a esta clase (las hay cada 30 mins), he dibujado a Campanita, Pepe Grillo, Mickey Mouse, Donald, Winnie Pooh, Chip & Dale, en mí última visita a Tontín y muchos más. Tampoco es que he ido mil veces, es que en una misma visita he hecho las clases varias veces. Les dejo el dibujo de mi Tontín, lo postié en mi instagram cuando fui el año pasado.

This is one of my favorite activities when at Disney, UNMISSABLE for me. My frustrated career has always been animation. Go to the ANIMATION BUILDING in Hollywood Studios (before called MG M Studios) and you will find the ANIMATION ACADEMY. It’s a classroom with many Mickey-shaped desks in which a Disney artist will teach you how to draw one of fifty Disney characters step by step. It can be classical characters like Mickey and Goofy or from some of your favorite films like Mushu or Elsa. I’ve taken these class so many times I’ve lost count of all the times I’ve taken this class (there’s one every 30 mins), I’ve drawn Tinkerbell, Jiminy Cricket, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh, Chip & Dale, in my last visit, Dopey and many more. It’s not as if I’ve travelled a thousand, but in one visit I’ve taken the class many time. Here’s my Dopey drawing, I posted it mi instagram account when I went last year.

9. EXPANSIÓN DE FANTASYLAND/ FANTASYLAND EXPANSION

El 6 de Diciembre del 2013 se abrió al público toda una expansión en Fantasyland en Magic Kingdom. Se suman dos castillos, el del Príncipe Eric y el de la Bestia, con tiendas, atracciones particulares como el nuevo restaurante Be Our Guest (como sacado de la película con salón igual al de la escena de baile), la taverna de Gastón, el ride, “Journey of the Little Mermaid”, el meet and greet de Merida, Ariel, ride “Seven Dwarfs Mine Train” y el Storybook Circus Train Station con nuevo ride de Dumbo, Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station y Pete’s Silly Sideshow and Big Top Souvenirs. Es como un circo gigante, está genial. Si no lo han visto aún, tienen que darle una ojeada.

On december 6th, 2013 the Fantasyland expansion at Magic Kingdom was opened for the public. Two castles were added, Prince Eric’s and the Beast’s, with stores and different attractions like the Be Our Guest Restaurant (with the dance hall just like out of the film), Gaston’s Tavern, the “Journey of the Little Mermaid” ride, Merida’s and Ariel’s meet and greet, the “Seven Dwarfs Mine Train” ride and the Storybook Circus Train Station with Dumbo’s new ride, Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station and Pete’s Silly Sideshow and Big Top Souvenirs. It’s like a giant circus, it’s so cool. If you haven’t seen it yet, you HAVE to check it out.

10. APROVECHA EL TRANSPORTE DISNEY / USE THE DISNEY TRANSPORTATION

Si te quedas en un hotel de Disney, te dan la facilidad para movilizarte hacia y de los parques. Hay tres modos dependiendo del hotel:

BUS: En todos los hoteles. Esperas fuera del hotel en las diferentes filas (para cada parque) y pasan en promedio cada 10 minutos. Incluso hay un bus que te lleva al y recoge del aeropuerto de Orlando gratis, el Disney’s Magical Express.

If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you have the benefit of mobilizing to and from the parks for free. There are three ways of transportation depending on the hotel:

BUS: In all the hotels. You wait outside the hotel, there are different lines (for each park), they come by approx. every 10 mins. There’s even a bus to take or pick you from the Orlando airport for free, Disney’s Magical Express.

MONORAIL: Este modo de transporte es solo para algunos hoteles en el área de Magic Kingdom. Pasa por Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, el transportation center y tres hoteles: el Grand Floridian, el Contemporary y el Polynesian #PorFavorMantenganseAlejadosDeLasPuertas

MONORAIL: This is available just to some of the Magic Kingdom area hotels. It passes through Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, the transportation center and three hotels: The Grand Floridian, the Contemporary Resort and the Polynesian Resort. #PorFavorMantenganseAlejadosDeLasPuertas

TRANSPORTE ACUÁTICO: Tal cual los buses, pero por agua. Botes que de una manera muy relajante te pasean y llevan a través de las dos lagunas, en intervalos de 15 a 20 mins, en tres lagunas: la de Magic Kingdom y sus hoteles, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios y sus hoteles y Downtown Disney y sus hoteles.

WATER TRANSPORTATION: Just like the buses, but by water. Boats that will get you through the lagoons in a very relaxing way, it’s like a ride! They come every 15-20 mins in three lagoons: Magic Kingdom’s and its hotels, EPCOT and its hotels,  Hollywood Studios and its hotels and Downtown Disney and its hotels.

11. DOWNTOWN DISNEY & DISNEY BOARDWALK

Si llegan fácil una noche y no vale la pena gastar en un ticket de un día por unas horas y quieren experimentar algo de Disney magic, vayan a pasear al DISNEY BOARDWALK. Es un malecón alrededor de la laguna de EPCOT que no es parte del parque, donde puedes acceder gratis. Hay varias tiendas, restaurantes, cafeterias, carritos y artistas ambulantes. Tiene medio km y puedes hasta alquilar bicis para pasear. Si vas de noche todo está iluminado hermoso y puedes ver los fuegos artificiales de EPCOT desde ahí.

If you arrive by night, it’s not really worth it to pay for a park ticket for another day to spend only a couple of hours there, so if you want to experience a little Disney magic, go take a walk around the DISNEY BOARDWALK. It’s a boardwalk by the EPCOT lagoon which is not part of the park, which you can enter for free. There are a lot of stores, restaurants, cafes, food stands and street artists. It’s about half a km long and you can even rent a bike for a ride. If you go by night it’s all lit up, really gorgeous and you get to watch the EPCOT fireworks from there.

También pueden ir a DISNEY DOWNTOWN, un complejo también abierto al público (no hay que pagar nada) con tiendas, de ropa, de coleccionables, cosas para casa, arte , DISNEY Y NO DISNEY. La tienda más grande de Disney la encontrarás ahi, llamada THE WORLD OF DISNEY. Mis favoritas son esa, The Art of Disney, la tienda de LEGO con esculturas gigantescas, Goofy’s Candy Co (¡dulces por doquier!) Days of Christmas (todo de navidad de Disney) y la tienda de Winnie the Pooh. Hay montoooones de restaurantes como el Rainforest Cafe, y cientos de sitios de entretenimiento, puedes jugar bowling, ir a un Arcade gigante y también el Cirque du Soleil, La Nouba.

You can also go to DISNEY DOWNTOWN, also a complex open to the public (for free) with so many stores; clothing, collectibles, housing, art, Disney and non Disney . The biggest Disney store you’ll find, called THE WORLD OF DISNEY. That’s my favorite with The Art of Disney, the LEGO store and its giant sculptures, Goofy’s Cando Co (candy everywhere) and the Winnie the Pooh store. There are sooooo many restaurants like the Rainforest Cafe, hundreds of entertainment spots, you can go bowling, to a giant Arcade and also the Cirque du Soleil, La Nouba.

  

12.  FANTASMIC!

De todos los shows que hay en los parques… los mejores están en Hollywood Studios y el mejor de todos es FANTASMIC! Tiene su propio anfiteatro al aire libre para cientos y cientos de personas frente al río. El show empieza con Mickey como conductor de orquesta y luego con efectos de agua y humo se transforma en el aprendiz de mago. Se escucha música y se proyectan escenas de Fantasia y luego de diferentes clásicos de Disney sobre pantallas de agua. Aparecen personajes en vivo actuando escenas y canciones,  en el estrado y en diferentes botes que comienzan a pasar por el río. Mickey tiene peleas épicas con algunos villanos, fuegos artificiales, efectos de luces, agua, humo y más. El show termina con el bote de Steamboat Willie con muchos personajes saludando. Es como si el show fuera todo dentro de la imaginación del amado ratón.

Este show se verdad es IM-PER-DI-BLE! Si van a Disney y no lo ven, créanme que sería un epic fail. Lo tienen que ver, lo tienen que ver, lo tienen que ver.

Out of every park, Hollywood Studios has the best live shows, and the best one is FANTASMIC! It has its own outdoors riverside amphitheatre for hundreds and hundreds of people. The show starts with an orchestra conductor Mickey and then with some water and smoke effects he transforms into Sorcerer Mickey. There’s music and protection of Fantasia scenes, then of some Disney classics on water screens. Some face characters appear live acting out scenes and songs on stage and different boats that go around the river. Mickey has some epic fights with some villains with fireworks, light, water smoke effects and more. The show ends with Steamboat Willie’s boat filled with loving characters waving to the crowd. It’s like the whole show is happening in Mickey’s imagination.

This show is truly UN-MI-SSA-BLE! If you go to Disney and miss it, that would be an epic fail. You gotta see it, you gotta see it, you gotta see it.

 

Sé que el post fue largo…. y todavía tengo muuuucho más que podría contarles. De verdad es mi especialidad. Cualquier duda que tengan o de otras cosas Disney que les gustaría que haga posts o tips, me cuentan. Tengo mil y un aces Disney bajo la manga :)
