Urubamba

No puedo conmigo misma. Era la primera vez desde mi viaje de prom (sí, hace casi ya una década) que no visitaba el Valle Sagrado de Urubamba. Había viajado otras veces a Cuzco, pero siempre a la ciudad. Obvio la primera parte de mi viajecito por 28 me tenía demasiado emocionada.

I just can’t take it. It was the first time since 2005 that I didn’t visit the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. I had travelled to the city after that, but not the valley. Evidently, I was really excited for the first part of my holiday trip.

Nos quedamos tres días en un hotel HERMOSO, el Inkallpa Lodge and Spa donde podía apreciar el valle en toda su majestuosidad.  Instalaciones geniales, rica comida y servicio de primera. Sólo quiero regresar a ese hotel. Llegamos y de frente empezamos a caminar por el río y explorar, luego decidimos de ir a visitar Pisaq (como a una hora en carro), pasear por el mercado y comer las deliciosas empanadas en horno de barro. Yo estaba determinada a comprarme un sombrero #MiObjetivoDelDia, y lo conseguí. Seguro lo verán pronto en algún post. No subimos a las ruinas porque era el primer día, pensamos fácil nos afectaría la altura y todos ya las conocíamos.

We stayed three days in the GORGOEUS Inkallpa Lodge and Spa where you could appreciate the valley in all its beauty. Great infrastructure, yummy food and top service. I just want to go back to that hotel. We arrived and started up front to explore and have a walk near the river. We then decided to go visit Pisaq (about an hour away by car), look around the market and eat delicious empanadas. I was determined to get a hat #ObjectiveOfTheDay and I got it. You will probably see it in a post soon. We didn’t go up to the ruins because, as it was the first day, the altitude could affect us and, we already had visited them in the past.

EL PARAÍSO DE LOS SOMBREROS * HAT PARADISE

Paramos a almorzar en Ulrike’s Café, cerca de la plaza de Pisaq. UN HIT. Mis amigos comieron la mejor crema de zapallo de sus vidas a solo s/.4.50 y probamos un carrot cake que estaba mega power. De todas maneras pidan ese. Les recomiendo ir martes, jueves o fin de semana que funciona el horno a la leña y pueden pedir pizzas. Nosotros fuimos viernes :(

We stopped for lunch at Ulrike’s Café, near the Pisaq Square. A HIT. My friends had the best pumpkin soup of their lives at only s/. 4.50 and had an incredible carrot cake. Be sure to have that. I recommend going tuesday, thursday or on weekends, since their wood oven works those days and you can get pizza. We were there on a friday.

Al día siguiente llegaron dos amigos más y así estábamos completos. Era un nuevo día para explorar y empezó soleado (no como el día anterior que sólo llovió) así que ¡estábamos más que listos! #PilasBienPuestas

The next day, our last two friends arrived and then we were complete. A new day to explore and the sun came out (unlike the previous day that rained like no tomorrow) so we were more than ready! #BatteriesModeOn

Fuimos a Ollantaytambo a comprar nuestros tickets para el tren a Machu Picchu la mañana siguiente y de paso paseamos por las ruinas, el mercado y obvio tomamos fotos como locos #QuiéranmeTalCualSoy. Almorzamos algo rapidito en la plaza, una pizza que estaba CERO buena, tanto que ni me acuerdo el nombre del restaurante. Después un amigo contactó una van que nos llevara a Moray, Maras y de regreso al hotel, todo por s/. 150. Dividelo entre 6 y por tener chofer el resto del día es todo un epic win.

We went to Ollantaytamo to get our train tickets to go to Machu Picchu the next morning, and also visited the reins, market and take pics #NoSurpriseThere. We grabbed a quick lunch in the square, a horrible pizza that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. A friend got to book a van to take us to Moray, Maras and then back to the hotel, all for s/.150. Divide that by 6 and having a chauffeur for a day is an epic win.

Los Salineros de Maras

Al tercer día nos levantamos al alba (3:30 am) ya que nos recogían a las 4 am para llevarnos a la terminal, el primer tren sale a las 5:07 am y llega a Aguas Calientes alrededor de las 6:30. Ahí hay que comprar un ticket de bus (siempre tengan a la mano carnet de estudiante que les sale mucho más barato todo) que te lleva a Machu Picchu, hasta arriba.  Paseamos por las ruinas y luego esperamos a nuestro turno (estábamos en el segundo que era a las 10 am) para subir el Waynapicchu. ¿Qué es el Waynapicchu? Pues esa montaña gigante y mística que se ve típicamente detrás de las ruinas en las fotos de Machu Picchu. Así es. Yo, la cobarde con pánico a las alturas subió. No fue fácil, incluso lloré en el camino, ¡pero lo hice! Llegué hasta la punta y era de locos. Estoy demasiado orgullosa de mi misma que lo hice.

On the third day we rose before the sun (3:30 am) since they were coming to pick us up at 4 am to take us to the terminal and catch the 5:07 train. It arrived at Aguas Calientes around 6:30 am. There you get a bus ticket (always carry your student ID to get better prices) to go to Machu Picchu, all the way to the top. We walked around the ruins and then made some time until our turn to going up the Waynapicchu (which was the second group at 10 am). What is the Waynapicchu you may ask? Why, it is that giant and mystical mountain that you can typically see behind the Machu Picchu ruins on pictures. That’s right. Me, the coward with fear of heights went up the mountain. It wasn’t easy, I even cried on the way, but I did it! I went all the way to the top, it was crazy. Im so proud of myself.

Después de eso, empezamos la travesía de regreso al hotel para despedirnos e ir a la ciudad. Esa parte viene en el siguiente post ;)

After that, we travelled back to the hotel to say goodbye to the lovely hotel and go to the city. That part comes in the next post ;)
