5 Tricks That Help Make Exercise a Habit

September 29, 2019 1:11 pm

We all know the importance of exercising regularly, but it’s one of those things that are easier said than done. Sometimes, we have too many other obligations, so we choose to drop the first thing we can, and sometimes, we simply get bored. And each time you give up, it gets harder to start over. So, to help you make exercising a habit that will stick, here are five tricks you should try.

Adjust your expectations

You can’t get out of shape overnight, so it goes without saying that you can’t improve your body shape overnight either. Expecting too much too soon can only lead to disappointment, which can affect your motivation in a negative way. It’s also one of the reasons many people give up too soon – they expect results too fast and when they don’t happen, they start thinking exercising doesn’t work for them. So, instead of obsessing over your end goal, try to focus on smaller goals and consistency. In other words, try to enjoy the whole process, and focus on knowing that you are not sitting at home doing nothing. In time, the physical results will show as well.

Start small

If you think that you can get up at 5 a.m. and run for five miles even though you’ve never run a mile in your life, you’re wrong. And even if you manage to force yourself to do that, you’re unlikely to enjoy it. On the other hand, if you start small and increase the intensity of your workout as you get used to it, you’re more likely to turn it into a part of your daily schedule. This is especially important if you have a full-time job; you don’t have to work out for 30 minutes every day. Doing it for 5 or 10 is completely acceptable. One day, you will feel inspired to work out for 15 minutes instead of five, and eventually, you will find more ways to add shorter workouts in-between your other chores.

Eat right

In order for your workout routine to actually show results, you need to adjust your diet as well. You could be working out every day a week, but you still won’t get in shape if you eat junk food. So, make sure to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. Also, consider using the best pre workout powder to boost your energy levels in the morning. There are many amazing pre and post workout supplements that you can try, just make sure to read all the labels so you know how to consume them properly.

Do something you enjoy doing

There are many different forms of exercise, and nobody says you have to visit the gym every day or run every morning. Do something you enjoy, whether it’s cycling, dancing, sports, or something else. Most people think that exercise has to include something unpleasant, but there’s really no reason for that to be true. It has to include effort in order to produce results, but that effort should still be fun and enjoyable. So, don’t be afraid to try a few different activities until you find one that you enjoy the most.

Have the right gear

You know that feeling when you get something new and you can’t wait to try it out? Well, consider getting the right gear for working out. Sure, you can always wear your old sweatpants and a T-shirt, but that’s very unlikely to boost your motivation. On the other hand, if you get clothes and shoes especially made for your exercise sessions, you’ll have an easier time getting into the right mindset the moment you put on your workout clothes.

Exercising is hard to start and even harder to keep, so consider the listed tips. Think about your workout routine and what you can do to improve it and maintain it. This way, you’re more likely to turn exercising into a healthy habit that will make you both feel and look better than ever before.
